Event Terminology

Event terminology can be complex. eventplus uses a hierarchy structure with optional add-ons, as illustrated below.

Event:

An “event” is the overarching structure or container for event registrations.

Section:

A “section” acts as a sub-event. All events must have at least one section. Participants can have one registration per section. You can customise the terminology for section - some common examples are ‘Race’ or ‘Session’.

  • Single Section (Race): All categories often take place simultaneously, and participants can only register for one category. Ideal for most one-day events.
  • Multiple Sections (Races): Categories take place at different times, and participants can register for more than one category. Common for multi-day events, series events or events with ancillary training days.

Category:

A “category” is what participants select during registration. Each category includes its own pricing.

Divisions:

Divisions can be used to automatically group participants into competitive groups based on date of birth or sex. They are setup independently of categories and can be applied across multiple categories.

Identifiers:

Identifiers are optional unique IDs assigned to each participant's registration. You can define the terminology (e.g., Bib Number, Chip Number, Timing Tag).

  • Each category is optionally assigned one identifier range.
  • A single identifier range can be shared across multiple categories.

Teams:

For team-based categories with a fixed number of participants per team:

  • Set up a team type and assign it to the category. This will designate the category as a “team” category.
  • The team captain registers, completes payment, and can invite team members to join the team.
