Mailchimp

Mailchip is a bulk email platform. The integration between eventplus and Mailchimp allows participants emails to be automatically added to a Mailchimp email list when they register, and removed if the participant withdrawals.

Setup

The first steps are done on the Mailchimp website (mailchimp.com).

  1. Either create a new Mailchimp account, or login to your existing account.
  2. Under “Account” then “Extras” select API keys
  3. Create an API key, copy this key as you'll need to enter it into the eventplus dashboard.
  4. Setup your lists. Mailchimp offers the option to setup multiple lists and/or use tags within each list. https://mailchimp.com/help/getting-started-tags/. It's important to understand the scenarios where emails can be added to list(s) in order to setup your list(s) in the most useful way.
  5. eventplus provides the option add emails to the list(s) for the following scenarios:
    1. Participant visits the event registration form and enters their email;
    2. Participant registers for the event, at which time if they had previously been added as a “visitor” the email can be automatically removed from that list/tag.

The next steps are on the eventplus dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Setup > Integrations > Mailchimp
  2. Enter your Mailchimp API key.
  3. Update these settings:
    1. When a person signs in for this event subscribe them to this list - Set this if you wish to add the email when a person visits the event registration form and enters their email (first step in the registration process).
    2. …add assign them this list tag - If you are using mailchimp list tags you can specify the tag.
    3. When a person registers for this event subscribe them to this list - Set this if you want to add participants who register for the event
    4. …and assign them this list tag - If you are using mailchimp list tags you can specify the tag.
    5. …and unsubscribe them from this other list - And you can remove from the initial list.
    6. …and remove this other list tag - And remove the tag if you are using these.
    7. …also subscribe any family members registered at the same time - If family members have been entered and an email specified add them too.
    8. …unsubscribe them if they withdraw from the event - Unsubscribe if they withdrawal from the event.

This illustration demonstrates using one single list and tags to differenciate between visits and registrations.
